MVS Supports World Intellectual Property Day 2021April 26, 2021

McKee, Voorhees & Sease, PLC is proud to support World Intellectual Property Day on April 26, 2021. This day celebrates the role intellectual property rights play in encouraging innovation and creativity and the many inspiring inventors and creators around the world who are working to provide for a better tomorrow.

The event was established by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in 2000 to raise awareness of how patents, copyrights, trademarks, trade secrets and designs impact daily life and to celebrate creativity, and the contribution made by creators and innovators.

The formation of the WIPO dates back to 1883 and 1886 when the Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property in 1883 and the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works in 1886 provided for the establishment of the United International Bureaux for the Protection of Intellectual Property (BIRPI) in 1893. In 1970, BIRPI transformed to become WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization) which was a state-led, intergovernmental organization which in 1974 became one of the specialized agencies of the United Nations.

The theme for this year’s World IP Day is “Small businesses taking big ideas to market,” encouraging the world to leverage the innovative power of small businesses to solve problems and create opportunities. This year, the USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office) will highlight those who have used intellectual property as a business strategy. Laws protecting creative intangible products give people and businesses property rights to the information and intellectual goods they create. Protecting the rights of these inventors and creators is paramount to their success in developing and selling their unique product and/or service. The MVS team of professionals with STEM related degrees including 7 engineering, 10 science including 5 master’s degrees, 3 Ph.D. degrees and two Doctor of Pharmacy degrees provide the experience and knowledge to support our client’s intellectual property needs.

MVS supports the efforts of World Intellectual Property Day and we acknowledge and congratulate our clients and colleagues on all that they do with intellectual property and for understanding the important role it plays in encouraging and supporting invention and innovation. From the seminal U.S Supreme Court decision Pioneer v. J.E.M. Ag Supply, 534 U.S. 124 in 2001, we have helped our clients obtain over 4,460 patents and 1,430 trademark applications in the last five years.
