Inventors Hall of Fame announces 2007 inductees
The National Inventors Hall of Fame has announced this year’s inductees. In all, 16 inventors were inducted, 7 living and 9 posthumously. Those honored include:
- Paul Baran and Donald Davies for digital packet switching
- Paul Lauterbur and Peter Mansfield for Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
- Emmett Chappelle for Bioluminescence techniques
- Leroy Hood for the automated DNA sequencer
- Robert Metcalfe for Ethernet
- John Franz for Roundup? herbicide
- Allen Breed for the automotive airbag
- David Cushman and Miguel Ondetti for Captopril
- William Goddard and John Lynott for magnetic disk storage
- Peter Goldmark for the long playing (LP) record
- Maurice Hilleman for several vaccines, including chicken pox, Haemophilus influenzae, hepatitis A, hepatitis B, measles, meningitis, mumps, and pneumonia
- Godfrey Hounsfield for the CAT or CT scanner
- Arthur Nobile for Prednisone
- Otto Wichterle for soft contact lenses
